| it's been a long day... and twill be a long night... probably followed by a long day. fuck. this five year school re-union thing has got me psyched... it's been a whack five years for me and it should be awesome hearing what the other boys have been getting up to... all the booze, all the women, all the grad jobs and all the criminal offences... i'm sure there will be many a great tale. sbhs boys i've bumbed into recently (minus the boys i usually hang out with): mark and sachin (the freehills connection) at ryan's bar in the city. mark was smashed off his tits... and so was i... sachin looked exactly the same and was just how i remembered him... intellectual and well-mannered; TDF at hermann's bar... ahh tim... such a hippie now - i hope the revolution happens man... it's always nice to catch up with you for a beer; bumped into sam bradley, toby and edgie at the commodore in north syd... didn't speak for long but they seemed to be doing alright and having a bit of fun; nick kelly - fuck he's grown! anyways, i decided that i'm going to bring two cases of TEDdies and some steaks to the gathering... i probably won't get hungry but i may get a little thirsty as the day grows old. in other news, sri lanka v australia final on saturday... should be awesome! sri lanka will win which will make me a happy chappy... australia are the world's best team at the moment but that will change come saturday night. they haven't had to face a bowling line up that is as one fire as the one we've got. slinga malinga, vaas and murrali... that's just gonna be hard for the top order... the question is do we play fernando who choked in the semi... as long as rudi is not fricken umpiring it should be right... and lanka has cleaned up in the field this world cup... our batting is not too scrappy either - with mahela striking form and the middle holding it's own... but realistically, we will need to bat first with contributions from sanath and sangakara. we won't win unless we get 300. we also have to go after tait (coz he is shithouse) and hogg (who is even more shithouse). i know hogg can turn it both ways but the lankan top order faces murrali in the nets day in day out so my prediction is that hogg will get carted. i feel like screaming really loudly coz i'm fucking tired but i'm in a library so it maybe a little dramatic... okay i'm off to the bar coz there is a pyjama party on and i wanna see some ass (tina, baby, please disregard that line - i like ur ass the best but it's my duty to make sure that nuggzy doesn't get too stressed out!).

| It's half past six in the morning and I can't get to sleep. Just finished playing poker with the boys in my room out the back and I know I have to be at UNSW in about five hours for Cultural Night practice. Having written a screenplay, I now have to direct the damn thing and it is proving to be harder than first anticipated. Interesting.
Random thoughts include why I feel that being charitable is posing to be quite the conundrum. It seems like it is a mixture between being selfish and selfless. Simply put, it seems like the act of being charitable quenches one's selfish thirst of the satisfaction of helping those less fortunate - which is also relatively selfless. The only reason for this contemplation is that I've been doing a few random things which I am trying to rationalise.
One of these random things has been my recent visits to a few refugees at the Villawood Detention Centre. Just talking to them and trying to ease the pain of their suffering makes me feel good. I also attended a few rallies and helped out after the massacre of 60 schoolgirls in Sencholai in the Sri Lankan civil war which also made me feel good about myself. I'm just questioning whether this satisfaction is the main reason behind what I've been doing. If it is (?) then I'm a selfish prick.
It also seems strange that I've been reading. Yes, that's right, READING?! Having started to progress through the introduction of 'The Autobiography of Malcolm X', I can't seem to put it down. It's also kind of weird since we just passed the 5-year anniversary of the tragedy of 9/11. Reading through Malcolm's often controversial memoirs a few more random thoughts entered my mind.
The media is soo politically polluted that the power-brokers will always have a certain element of control over our minds. I mean we remember 9/11 and each year on its anniversary there will inevitably be a series of documentaries on each of the major channels. Yet I'm positive that if we questioned the average person on the date of the Hiroshima bombings, or the date of America's infiltration on Iraq and its civilians, or the number of people displaced by Hurricane Katrina, or the percentage of people affected by the AIDS epidemic in Congo, that most people would struggle to get one answer right. I would get all four wrong. But the images of the icon of American wealth, prosperity and consumerist greed crumpling to the ground will forever be embedded in my mind. It's sickening really.
Peace.

| A car full of black bogans, a stormy motorway (go e-tag) and too many longnecks made up the prequel to the Skroggy "Scrubs" Party on Saturday night. In short - everyone 'scrubbed' up (excuse the pun) and then everyone grogged up and then everyone partied hard and ended up at Panthers. We had JDs and Turks and Leonard (The Security Gard) and 'The Todd' and a few Elliots - Happy Days!!!
